If anyone knows of any, let me know!īTW I use Ubuntu Linux, and my choice of IDE is Eric.
As it is, there isn't really an IDE that I know of which bridges the gap nicely between really bare-bones ones like IDLE and NotePad++, and more full on ones like P圜harm. Wing IDE would be my recommendation for noobs on Windows generally, it's clean and intuitive, but unfortunately it doesn't do autocomplete in the free version (though for total noobs this can be a good thing). What would be fantastic is if they offered a simple 'switch' to flick into 'beginner mode' or something allow new files to be written on the fly (many editors will allow you to 'open' and write to a new file without even naming the file until you want to run it, that's what I want) and disable all the 'error' highlighting or whatever except for syntax and maybe PEP8 guidelines, yet still allow autocomplete type things to work. And the must-be-a-project thing is crazy. Yeah it's just that the process of figuring out what the heck all those light bulbs and squiggly lines actually mean to decide which ones I should turn off that becomes so tedious.
